Christina Winkler holds MAs in Slavistics and economics (1999) and Holocaust Studies (2010). She received her Ph.D. on Russian Holocaust remembrance and a local case study on the Holocaust in Rostov-on-Don at the Stanley Burton Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, University of Leicester (2016). From 2000-2009, she was working at Volgograd State University, Free University Berlin and for government organisations Petersburger Dialog and Otto Benecke Foundation. Following her Ph.D., Dr. Winkler was a research associate at the Stanley Burton Center and curated an exhibition on German war crimes in Rostov-on-Don together with partner organisations Museum Karlshorst and Tsentr Kholokost which was presented in Germany, the UK and Russia between 2017 and 2019. Dr. Winkler was a visiting professor at the Russian State University for the Humanities (2018-22) where her research included a joint project of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide History and Potsdam University about the Holocaust and NS-killings of psychiatric patients in Russia. In 2022 she concluded this project at the Fritz Bauer Institute. Before joining Selma Stern Zentrum für jüdische Studien, Dr. Winkler conducted an archival research project on looted Jewish property (2021, 2023) in Moscow and Berlin and was a research associate at Tikvah Institute (2024) where she co-wrote a study on the impact of the war against Ukraine and 7 October on Jewish life in Germany. In 2025 she worked for the Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project Foundation, an organization that promotes archival documentation, research, and education regarding the looting of Jewish cultural property by the Nazis. Dr. Winkler’s work was awarded with several prestigious grants, incl. a junior fellowship at Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies, a L. Dennis and Susan R. Shapiro Fellowship at United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, a fellowship at the Center for Holocaust Studies at the Institute for Contemporary History, and a research grant from the German-Russian Historical Commission.

Christina Winkler hat Master-Abschlüsse in Slawistik und Wirtschaftswissenschaften (1999) sowie in Holocaust-Studien (2010). Sie promovierte am Stanley Burton Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies der University of Leicester mit einer Arbeit zur russischen Holocausterinnerung und dem Holocaust in Rostov am Don (2016). Zwischen 2000 bis 2009 war sie an der Staatlichen Uni Wolgograd, der Freien Universität Berlin sowie für den Petersburger Dialog und die Otto-Benecke-Stiftung tätig. Im Anschluss an ihre Promotion erarbeitete sie an der Uni Leicester in Kooperation mit dem Museum Karlshorst und dem Moskauer Zentrum Holocaust eine Ausstellung zu deutschen Besatzungsverbrechen in Rostov am Don, die 2017-19 in Deutschland, Großbritannien und Russland gezeigt wurde. Dr. Winkler war Gastprofessorin an der Russischen Staatlichen Universität für Geisteswissenschaften (2018–22), wo ihre Forschung unter anderem ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt des Moskauer Zentrums für Holocaust- und Genozidgeschichte, des Fritz-Bauer-Instituts und der Universität Potsdam zum Holocaust und NS-Morden an psychiatrischen Patienten in Russland umfasste. Bevor sie zum Selma-Stern-Zentrum für jüdische Studien kam, führte Dr. Winkler ein Archivforschungsprojekt zu geraubtem jüdischem Eigentum (2021, 2023) in Moskau und Berlin durch und war wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Tikvah-Institut (2024), wo sie an einer Studie über die Auswirkungen des Krieges gegen die Ukraine und der Ereignisse vom 7. Oktober auf das jüdische Leben in Deutschland mitwirkte. 2025 war sie für die Stiftung Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project tätig, einer Organisation, die sich für die archivarische Dokumentation, Forschung und Aufklärung im Zusammenhang mit der Plünderung jüdischen Kulturguts durch die Nazis einsetzt. Dr. Winklers Arbeit wurde mit mehreren renommierten Stipendien ausgezeichnet, darunter einem Juniorstipendium am Wiener Wiesenthal-Institut für Holocaust-Studien, dem L. Dennis- und Susan R. Shapiro-Stipendium am United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, einem Fellowship des Zentrums für Holocauststudien des Instituts für Zeitgeschichte sowie einem Forschungsstipendium der Deutsch-Russischen Historikerkommission.
