Focus Group - Jewish Literatures Berlin-Brandenburg
The Focus Group for Jewish Literatures Berlin-Brandenburg will dedicate itself to the diversity of Jewish literatures in the various linguistic cultures of the world. The activities will not only be focused on canonical texts of world literature, but also on literary artworks that are dealing with challenges that go on being crucial into our present. Accordingly, the focus group will also discuss the importance of approaches from literary studies for cultural-historical configurations of a more comprehensive profile. Through their artistic composure, Jewish literatures open pathways to plural approaches to representations of historical experiences as well as social knowledge, which can also be made productive, theoretically and methodologically, within the field of Jewish Studies at large. Consequently, the focus group will be equally oriented towards literary studies and perspectives relevant within other disciplinary context.
In the Science Region Berlin-Brandenburg, there are distinguished literary scholars working in the field, whose activities are to be brought together in this focus group at the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies. The aim is to make Jewish literatures in the various vernaculars of the world visible in their breadth and to bring about thematic networking in this field as to research, teaching and public outreach.
We cordially invite interested colleagues to join the focus group. This applies to colleagues from the Berlin Brandenburg region as well as to researchers from all over the world.
